Forgive me if I’m blabbering on – I’m sipping an exquisite wine (Primitivo 2006) from the Jacuzzi Winery located in Sonoma, California. We are celebrating the completion of my first week at Dashboard. Nelson made two scrumptious, Australian racks of lamb for dinner. As he is searing the lamb, I am making the crust. He then coats the lamb with grainy mustard and I sprinkle on the spiced breadcrumb & parm crust. He does a wonderful job of arranging the two racks on a baking sheet (bones up and interlaced) and we bake for about 1/2 hour.
My first week at Dashboard has been such a great experience. The culture is hard working yet fun. I am part of the front-end development team, which consists of 3 comedians. I was kind of nervous the night before I started but when I got there and was immediately immersed in the work, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time. I really loved the work and I was excited about it. You can’t help it really, because you are surrounded by people that are passionate about what they do. I have been learning so much from David Blonski, the guy that is basically showing me the ropes. He’s awesome and really quick to come up with solutions. I really cannot believe how quickly the week flew by, or how quickly the day comes to an end. It always feels as though I just arrived and when I look at my watch, it’s already 6PM. I guess the best way to describe it is I feel lucky because I’m getting paid to do something I’m very interested in.
I have two more weeks remaining at Dashboard. I’m not sure what will happen after that, but I am glad that I made this career change. Don’t get me wrong – there was nothing wrong with what I did before. I’m just really excited about the new challenges moving forward.
