Knitting project: I heart pompoms hat

Another knitting project completed. The pattern for this adorable I heart pompoms hat by Karen Borrel can be purchased from Ravelry for $3.00.

I used 1 skein of Malabrigo Rios to knit this one up, in Azules (#856). The Rios is machine washable, gentle cycle, cold water, dry flat Worsted, 4 play, 210 yards (192 m) 100 grams, gauge 18.0 to 22.0 sts = 4 inches. I absolutely love the colours and malabrigo is so lovely to work with. I purchased this beautiful yarn from the Purple Purl in Leslieville. Though the selection is not nearly as extensive as at Romni Wools, it is open on Sundays and more importantly, they have a yarn ball winder. The Knit Cafe is also a cute shop with a ball winder and open on Sundays. This one is located on the west side of town.

Using the US7 and US8 needles, I knit this hat up over the course of a week. It’s an open hat that is cinched at the top with a crochet foundation chain. At first I struggled with crochet, but once you get going creating the chains, it’s easy. I will admit that I don’t love making pompoms, even though I like the look of them. It’s time consuming and a pain for me. I probably just need to use stiffer cardboard and it would make the final steps a lot easier. I am now however, a huge fan of the twisted German cast-on.
