The smiles say it all. My team played in a recreational curling bonspiel held at the Dixie Curling Club and organized by Go West Athletics. We had four matches, losing one match quite badly, and our final match was one of the toughest we’ve encountered in a while. It was against a team we were not familiar with, and the players were experienced. We were tied up going into the final end. One of my teammates came up to me and told me that she felt intimidated – that’s how nervous we were, but all four of us were focused and determined, and we won the end and the match. The organizers tallied up the points as we anxiously crossed our fingers. We went into that final match sitting in second place, but we came out victorious. We are the Go West 2017 Winter Bonspiel champions! I’m so proud of my team. We fought hard, yet managed to share a lot of laughs throughout the tournament. Some of the teams we saw regularly at the club had returned for this bonspiel, making it somewhat of a reunion. Surprisingly, my pecs and lats are not as sore as they usually are after a bonspiel. It must be the pilates that has made those muscles stronger. But ask me how I feel tomorrow night, after my regular curling game.
